Chris Brook RSW

Self-taught artist Chris Brook was born in Yorkshire in 1960, and now lives and works on the Scottish Borders, where he combines painting and printmaking techniques to make abstract mixed-media works inspired by rural and urban landscapes. Chris’ paintings have been exhibited at Visual Arts Scotland and the Royal Society of Scottish Painters in Watercolour. In 2023 he became an elected Member of the RSW.

The space where land meets sea, and ideas of structured ‘containment’, defined by boundary walls, fences and ploughed fields, are recurrent themes in Chris’ work. Pursuing the creation of his own visual language, his marks and symbols are scored into the surface of his textured, painterly works with a pure and primal simplicity. Certain pieces will be completed in this way, while others will be over-painted allowing the process to start again on an enriched surface.
