Gyrating Metamorphic Flowers is the name given to this group of six works on paper by Italian painter and sculptor Alessandro Twombly (b.1959 in Rome).
In these sensory works figures, energies, forms - mineral, vegetable, human, animal - burst and glide across the paper, energetic, creatural, elegant, urgent, there and not there, transformed with masterful abstraction and colour from erstwhile floral composition to something deeper, something more compelling.
Alessandro Twombly’s work cannot be neatly encapsulated by orderly genres and tidy generalisations but simply by ‘radici dell’essere’ - the ‘rootedness of being’ - at the heart of everything he does.
