Sam Shendi is an Egyptian born, British Sculptor who describes his works as vibrant reflections of the human condition. Sam was born in 1975 and graduated with a First Class Honours Degree from Helwen University of Fine Arts in Cairo in 1997, where he specialised in monumental and architectural sculpture. In 2013 he was winner of the FIRST@108 public art award at the Royal British Society of Sculptors, and in 2029 was winner of the Liverpool Public Art Award. His works are exhibited and collected around the world.
Sam’s work explores the psychological and emotive core of human existence through vibrant, multicoloured abstractions of the human figure. Each piece serves as a visual documentation of his personal diary, capturing specific memories and experiences in his daily life. Working primarily with stainless steel, aluminium and paint, Sam makes work that bridges the gap between himself and the public, and invites viewers to consider their own emotional complexities. His use of colour is at the heart of his practice, as an expression of emotion and the endless complexity of human psychology and interaction.
