Chowwai Cheung's work is informed by her recollections of Devon's coastal landscape, both real and imagined. She trained at Manchester Metropolitan University, where she specialised in Printed Textiles, graduating with a 1st Class BA Honours. Her work has been shown internationally and she has exhibited in group exhibitions including The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, and at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum, the Royal West of England Academy and the National Open Print Exhibition.
Chowwai makes unique Collagraph prints inspired by the landscape. Intrigued by rock formations and the shape of the land, she works with geometric shapes that emphasise the boundaries between shape and form. Her prints are all handmade, drawn and cut onto collagraph plates, allowing her to build hard-edged shapes with contrastingly soft, translucent tones and textures. Chowwai finishes each piece in acrylic, giving her freedom to develop and conclude each piece in a unique way.
