Elaine Sheppard Bolt

Elaine Sheppard Bolt is a Sussex based ceramic artist working with clay and mixed media. She makes works and compositions guided by a sense of narrative, steeped in the context of her local surroundings. Elaine graduated with an MA in Ceramics from UCA Farnham and is an alumni of the Crafts Council's Hothouse talent development programme. She has worked as a Lecturer on the BA Ceramics course at the University of Brighton, and has run projects funded by Arts Council England, by the a-n Artist Bursary, and by the Quenington Sculpture Trust.

Elaine creates sculptural works that are informed by the landscape, as well as wall pieces which aim to blur the boundaries between the made and the found, by combining found materials with hand built ceramic objects. These large scale works are complemented by a range of ceramic vessels in porcelain and stoneware with mixed media additions. Finished in a muted colour palette, all of Elaine's works are glazed in the flint blacks, soft grey stone and ghostly chalk tones of the South Downs.
