Gail Mallatratt's work is motivated by her love of colour and of stories. She studied Graphic Design at Central St Martins, then gained an MA in Information Design and MA printmaking at Camberwell College of Arts. She has been a member of Printmakers Council since 2007.
Gail uses the unpredictable, serendipitous nature of printmaking to explore the ways in which the landscape can be a reflection of a state of mind, where some essential, internal truth is expressed. Once inspired by her subject, she draws and paints on paper before cutting the image into a wooden printing block. She then makes prints and alters the composition or balance of colours in order to maintain an open dialogue with the image.
