Alessandro Twombly

Alessandro Cyrus Twombly was born in Rome in December 1959. His mother was  Italian artist and photographer Baroness Tatiana Franchetti; his father American artist Cy Twombly. In the early 1980’s Alessandro received a degree in Modern History from the London School of Economics before going to New York where he was studio assistant for Sandro Chia. In 1986 Alessandro had his first solo show in Rome at the Bonomo Gallery. In 1994 he had his first show in New York at Richard Milazzo’s The Grand Salon. 

 

Alessandro has had many solo exhibitions for his paintings and sculptures from New York to Rome, Berlin, Basel, London, Brussels, Geneva, Köln, Buenos Aires, Helsinki and Milan, as well as in joint exhibitions worldwide.

 

From March to September 2023 Alessandro is the featured artist of the Fondazione Ghisla Art Collection in Locarno, Switzerland. His exhibition ‘Radici dell’essere’ consists of 18 large paintings and several sculptures. 

 

In April 2024 Alessandro will have a solo exhibition at the Amanita Gallery in New York City, his first time exhibiting in the city for 20 years.

 

Alessandro lives and works in the hills of Lazio, northeast of Rome, in a house Richard Milazzo calls  - for very obvious reasons - The House of 10 Dogs.
