We are delighted to announce printmaker Paul Furneaux RSA will be delivering a live print demonstration on Thursday 12th September, illuminating some of the tools and print techniques in the Japanese wood block print tradition Mokuhanga, followed by a talk about his work on show at Velarde.
Master Printmaker Paul Furneaux RSA was born in Aberdeenshire and studied Drawing and Painting at Edinburgh College of Art. As a recipient of the Monbusho Scholarship he began his research into the art of woodblock printing, undertaking a Master’s degree at Tama Art University, Tokyo from 1998 to 2000, where he developed his interest in the Mokuhanga printmaking technique which has underwritten his practice ever since.
Paul has received numerous awards including the RSA Salvesen Scholarship, the RSA Gillies Bequest Award, and the Hope Scott Trust Award. In 2006 he was elected a Member of the Royal Scottish Academy. He lives and works in Edinburgh and exhibits internationally.
Paul's work in currently part of the Colour Stories exhibition at Velarde until the 14th September 2024.
