A PASSIONATE NATURE
Contemporary works exploring the drama and beauty of the natural world22nd July - 9th September 2023
-
This inaugural group exhibition responds to the show’s leading artwork Ophelia After Millais, 2018, by British photographer Julia Fullerton-Batten. This spectacular staged photograph pays homage to one of the 19th century’s most dramatic paintings by Pre Raphaelite artist John Everett Millais and is the starting point for an exhibition that explores the drama and beauty of the natural world.
The works in this collection have been selected for the concepts that underpin them, the forms they take, the stories they tell, or simply the materials they are created from. They all express the delicacy, power and wonder of nature, from the micro to the truly monumental. Natural forms and environments and the unwavering forces of natural law hold their place as both muse and metaphor in art, used by artists across the centuries as a mirror for reflecting the passionate complexities of human emotion.
